"We're only gonna die from our arrogance" -- Sublime
Listening to Ani DiFranco on Democracy Now -- hearing about education cuts in the new state budget -- gathering on campus for a demonstration to fight tuition hikes. Reading about the war we're about to embark on...
Makes me sick. Never in my life have I felt more shameful to be an american. america, land of the free, free to do whatever the fuck your government tells you to. Fuck! I'm sick of this.
Let's go to war, let's kill a whole bunch of fucking Iraqi's. As long as the boys and red-white-and-blue come home unscathed, what difference does it make? I mean, there's human life, and then there's good ol' American life.
I started a school organization called Freedom Now! -- we were gonna stand up for civil rights and flawed drug policy. Now all I wanna do is sit down, no I can't even sit down anymore -- this is just too much shit to deal with. I almost feel compelled to curl up in a fetal position and ride this tidal wave out. When I get back up hopefully it'll all be over -- the world will either have dwindled to silence in a nuclear winter, or perhaps, we'll all have regained our sanity -- though I'm beginning to lose all hope for that.
Hopefully, I'll regain my composure. I'd like to really create something big with Freedom Now! but unless I close my eyes and pretend that we're not on a collision course with total annihiliation, I don't know how I can even try to make a difference without feeling like I'm trying to tear down a cement wall with my teeth and fingers.
If there is to be peace in the world,
there must be peace in the countries,
if there is to be peace in the countries,
there must be peace in the cities,
If there is to be peace in the cities,
there must be peace in the home.
If there is to be peace in the home,
there must be peace in the heart.
It seems that so many hearts would rather sacrifice peace for the new ad campaign Chevron's running. You know the one. Don't you? Oh you don't?
"Kill an Iraqi get a free-gallon of gas"
It's true, blood for oil. I know I'm not the first person to say it, and I sure as hell hope I'm not the last, but maybe if we all say it enough. Maybe if we all say it loud enough, maybe some ungodly rich business-owner in America will finally say it too. And then, maybe they'll listen, because history shows that our government doesn't care about you or me.
