In 2006 a federal grand jury demanded my unpublished video of a San Francisco protest. I refused, and served 226 days, the longest term of any US journalist for refusing a federal subpoena. This is the record as it was published at the time: the legal filings and press releases, and the pages supporters ran while I was inside.

1. July 8, 2005Films an anti-G8 protest in San Francisco.
2. Early 2006A federal grand jury subpoenas his unpublished footage. He refuses.
3. August 1, 2006Held in contempt and remanded to FCI Dublin.
4. August 31, 2006Released on bail pending appeal.
5. September 14, 2006Returned to custody.
6. April 3, 2007Released after mediation with U.S. Magistrate Joseph Spero. He publishes the raw footage and never testifies. 226 days in all.
