This Tuesday, June 12th, I will be interviewed by Stephen Colbert, the man TIME magazine named one of the 100 most influential people in the world. For anyone who doesn’t know, The Colbert Report is a satirical spin-of of The Daily Show produced in the vein of The O’Reilly Factor. It’s going to be fun, so you should tune in.

Don’t have cable? Neither do I. The Colbert Report is available in iTunes. And if you’re in NYC, drop me an e-mail and maybe we can meet up. I’ll be in town from Monday evening through Wednesday afternoon.

In other news, I have a new blog coming out later this week called Media Sphere. Matt Smith at the SF Weekly tried to get the skinny on the project at the Progressive Convention last week, but managed to get a few things wrong. These things happen when talking about projects before they launch, but this cloud of confusion will be cleared before the week concludes. The blog launches this Thursday. Stay tuned for more details…

I have been fascinated with webstreaming of LIVE content to the internet since I saw it while performing a search for something else on Yahoo.com ’s search engines back in 1997. I am now attempting to piece together an ArtsNews Network that will have LIVE reports from artists themselves. Any artist or arts consumer with computer skills to volunteer to this effort are welcome to join in the discusssions on this site’s messege boards. I hope to find more help in getting the network actually providing LIVE arts news ASAP. Thanks , Davizm

I cannot wait to see the show tonight! I’ve told so many friends about it, and I’m very eager to hear what Stephen has to ask you.

    Good luck, and have fun!

Hey man, just saw you on Colbert and read about your whole situation. I’m not planning on becoming a journalist, but you’re still an inspiration!

Fine job tonight! You stated your position clearly, which I found helpful. And you held your own with Stephen!

First off, you’re not a journalist. A journalist reports news via television, radio, newspapers, and magazines. Blogging is a hobby. Let’s not get those two confused. You most certainly should be incarcerated for withholding information from authorities. There was no just cause preventing you from doing so, you were simply rebeling. You, along with many others, are the reason our generation is frowned upon by so many. You make every attempt to do the opposite of what is correct, set fourth by our government. Now, I’m not a hoo-rah patriot who believes that I am somehow superior to others because of the geographical teriotory in which I reside. F*ck patriotism. At the same time, what you did prevented our legal system from determining weather or not criminal actions had taken place that day. By having that tape and not releasing it to authorities, you are nothing more than an accessory to what had taken place that day. To you and all those a part of this generation who believe in disrupting the sociological system that has been established, get a life. You merely belong to a large group of young activists protesting against everything in the world that you don’t like without just cause. And as for the interview, way to look like a jackass on national television.

“What is correct as set forth by our government”? As my bumper sticker says, (paraphrased), “Sometimes a patriot has to stand up for his country against his government.” We have a constitution that is supposed to be protected by our government. When we have an Attorney General who tells us that the right of habeus corpus is not guaranteed by the US Constitution, we have a BIG problem.

Whether you think Josh is a journalist or not is and was irrelevant to the case because there is no federal shield law protecting press, which by the way, according to the new California Social Standards, applies to the internet as well as radio, TV and print.

Mike, you were much more articulate in this post and just because I disagree with you, does not mean I don’t want to dialogue with you.

    You have it wrong.
Wolf wasn’t jailed for not releasing the 20 min. tape. He eventually released it, and had offered it show it to the judge before he was incarcerated.

He was jailed for refusing to answer questions before a grand jury about the people he had interviewed, sometimes off tape.

At a grand jury, unlike a normal jury, there are no lawyers. The grand jury can ask any tangential type of question, such as who the witnesses previous girlfriends have been, where they like to hang out, a list of names of everyone they might know who don’t have any connection with the crime being investigated. They can do this in order to cast a broad net under the guise of gathering evidence about a crime.
The grand jury process was really misused during the 1970s and late 60s to build FBI files on vietnam antiwar protesters who hadn’t broken any laws, and also during the red Scare of the 50s where they had hearings generating lists of 10,000s of people who were cast under suspicion for associating with the communist party due to their magazine subscriptions and whatnot.

Hey nice job! You made some great points. I’m glad there are people out there that are willing to stand up to the power-hungry feds. Keep it up!

I saw you on Colbert tonight. Great job! As a poster before me said, you really held your own against Colbert. Congrats on spreading the word further and good luck on future endeavors.

Your interview with Colbert was extremely well done. I have been studying the interactions between Colbert and his guests since the beginning of the show, and I can easily say I considered your performance to be among the top ten to date, in terms of maintaining your ability to make a clear point in the midst of his purposeful distractions.

Great job, and great representation of bloggers…
