Civil Contempt Hearing Today

Well everyone, my next hearing is less than 9 hours away. I’d like to thank all of you who have been able to donate to my legal defense fund; over the past couple weeks you all have helped me raise nearly $1000 (in addition to the $1000 from the SPJ)! Thank you all so much and please keep the donations coming; I will need to raise $10,000-$15,000 if my case ends up appealed to the 9th circuit.
I spent the weekend getting the Grand Jury Resource Page up to date, so take a look to read up on all the most recent information.
This blog will be updated sometime shortly after my hearing… wish me luck guys!
Thinking of you, Josh. Do what you need to do.
Josh Wolf – Civil Contempt Hearing Today…
Josh Wolf, the videoblogging journalist who has been brought before the Grand Jury by the Feds in order to obtain raw footage of a protest he documented, has been charged with civil contempt. His hearing is today.
Ryan Hodson, on her new site, Ryan Is …
Just donated $$ do your defense. Good luck today!
Josh,
You filmed people breaking the law! These people should be prosecuted to the fullest extent! By not giving the video’s to the grand jusy, you are aiding and abetting them, thus you should be in jail with them. Have fun in the cell!!!!
Hang in there Josh. We appreciate what you are doing. You’re a much braver person than annoyomus Bill.
The police car was not set on fire. Have the police have a fire damaged car that they can show in court, that was damaged from this incident? No, they do not, because it wasn’t set on fire.
Rather, the car drove over a foam sign, and the heat from the engine of the car caused some smoke to be produced from this foam. It was as bad as a burning newspaper or five cigarettes.
Again, no police car was burned. Why didn’t this come up in court?
More power to you. Good luck!
Josh was sent to jail. Hopefully someone will be able to post an update for him

Josh,
You remain in my agnostic prayers. Keep fighting the good fight.
Brian
Well,
Maybe you have the right to withhold these videos, but is it really worth a year in prison? I would find something a little more worthwhile to stand up for.
Danny, can you suggest something better to stand up for? Our government taking control of the media is arguably one of the most dangerous things that can happen.
Hold fast Josh. You are an example for all of us, and I wish I had the guts to do what you’re about to do.
[...] Back in July 2005, videographer Josh Wolf shot this compelling video of an anti-war protest, where he raised a provocative question: did the SFPD apply too much force against the protestors in response to an unrelated assault on a police officer? As it turns out, the case later made its way to federal court (because the SFPD receives federal funds), Wolf was asked to reveal the raw footage and refused, under his First and Fourth Amendment rights, as well as the California Shield Law, and is now being charged with contempt of court for refusing to hand over the tapes. “Well,

So I suppose freedom of speech and common liberty is not a noble cause to stand up for anymore?
Anarchists support you, Josh.
Where do you San Francisco leftist loonies get your sense of warped justice? Josh filmed these events, and felt completely free to publish selected scenes to push his own agenda/viewpoint, but when the government (ie, the people) asks to see the whole tape to determine if federal laws were broken (how dare they!!), then suddenly Josh says the tapes are private. So they’re public when they serve the needs of Josh and his friends, but they’re private when they don’t. Yes, that’s very fair and balanced.
Hey Josh, if you weren’t afraid of the truth, you wouldn’t mind showing the tapes. I hope your cel is comfy. And don’t forget to watch your back(side) while you’re in there. Enjoy…
From one Josh to another—hang in there. Thanks for standing up for the rights of journalists not to be bullied by idiot bureacracies.
“Unless a journalist’s right to withhold such material is recognized, “we’re not going to have Mr. Wolf or any reporters covering protests,” Fuentes told Alsup. “Confidential sources are not going to come forward. They’re (journalists) going to be viewed as investigative arms of the government.”” ~~SFGate
Could be the entire point of the matter right there.
Chavez—you call Josh a “lefty loony” which means “anyone who dares to criticize our corrupt and criminal and murdering war-mongering administration.” You are a perfect illustration of right-wing knee jerk “kill ‘em all and let God sort ‘em out” asshole-ism.
toute la france espere votre liberté
Josh, I’m so proud of you.
We *will* overcome.
Well, your country is really messed up… The story is in the Dutch paper, I hope you will recieve a lot of support and I hope people will open their eyes.

I’m a ‘journalist’. If the government asks for my “notes” it is a total different thing than a video. ‘Notes’ are my interpretation of an event. A video recording is an actual video of an event. Big difference.
Hey This is pretty cool. I think it’s a decent blog.
Thanks a lot and have fun!
Hey Your site is a little “different” but not bad.
I’ve seen a lot worse. Good content but try spicing it up a bit.
Thanks and good luck!
