So my comments got corrupted while I was flying back to SF tonight… I’ve restored the database but lost a few comments in the process… I’ll recreate them sometime tomorrow.

wow I saw you on Cobert, and as older person, a boomer, you give me hope for the next generation! I am impressed that at least some of the young people in this country care about others and are willing to put time, courage and energy into making this world a better place. back when i was a hippie we tried to do this but did not get far enough. I sometimes think this country is doomed, but not when I see people like you, and my own two kids who also live in SF, spending time to help others and the world. Maybe you know my son, a filmaker in SF, since he does things like you do. Toshi Hoo? also hes a vj at events you probably both go to .
    horray for youth like you!!!!

Glad you went on Colbert, and even held your own toe to toe with him! I admire you for sticking to your convictions and not giving into the feds, just because they’re the feds.

It amazes me that most people believe that anarchists are ready to blow up the white house, or that anarchists shouldn’t be protected by the same laws as a democrat or republican.

They’re still citizens, and more so, they’re still human beings.

Great show, hope people were watching that. :)

Way to clean up all the negative comments.
You just leave the positive and a couple of not to bad comments.

Clint, you are overly suspicious. I tried to add a comment and in fact, my comments were deleted during the program crash. Computer programs get glitches and Josh was unable to deal with the issue while in the air.

Josh, you did a great job on Colbert. Looking forward to checking out your new blog.

[...] My conclusion is that our public perception of the press/media/journalists has been changed dramatically by the Internet.  From Jayson Blair to CNN having “blog watchers” presenting segments during the news, it’s my opinion that the whole idea of free press has changed.  Turned upside down, even.  Hey, I love “The Daily Show” – but, is it weird that so many people get their actual NEWS from it?  With “infotainment” being the norm nowadays, it’s no wonder that anything goes – that an SLA Blogger gets treated like a member of the “real” press.  Interestingly, the other night on “The Colbert Report,” I saw an interview with Josh Wolf.  I saw he is described as a “freelance journalist and independent videographer” and he is under fire for not handing over videotape of anarchists to the government so they can prosecute.  What I found most interesting is that he talked about being a video blogger and it was freedom of the press and so on and so forth.  I thought the timing of his appearance was fortuitous, as I have been mulling this over in my head since leaving Denver.  After reading his bio on his blog/website, I see that he went to school for journalism.  In my mind, at least, I feel that still puts me, a non-journalist major, into a different category — a category of just a person with the technical capabilities to have a blog to spout off about things.  I haven’t made up my mind about Josh Wolf’s legal predicament, but his Colbert interview gave me more to think about.  [...]

Josh, you did a good job and really held your own. Not too many of his guest throw off his rhythm. You should have tossed out a few direct “all men are created equal” and equal protection under the constitution blah, blah, blah quotes, woulda love to hear what he had to say in response.

Y’all don’t get it. Colbert is a satirists, his views are not those that he represents on his show. No one, except MAYBE O’REILLY, COULD BE THAT SURE OF THEMSELF.

Josh, I just started watching the Colbert Report, so I have a idea how he works. You did the best out of EVERYONE I’ve seen so far. He likes to put people on the edge, and you turned the tables on him – had him speechless. He’s a fast thinker, and you held your own!

Way to go! You also was able to walk that fine line between comedy and seriousness, and you deserve a tremendous Atta-boy for that.

Nice work on Colbert. As stated above by Tekker, Colbert’s show is an O’Reilly satire. I’ve seen more than a few guests thrown off by his interview style and you were, right on the money with your remarks. It’s gotta be hard to keep a straight face with some of the comments he lets loose. I’m curious about what he might have said off-camera.

Regardless, it’s great to see journalists who have standards.

    Very well said quote…
“I have to say that I agree with Mrs. Hillbilly (and several others) who say that protecting those who don’t want our laws, with our laws, is just silly.”

I hope Josh can make some money from this because it looks like Liz and his friends will be supporting him for life. It is a very sad but true truth.

Who are these people that watched it but didn’t understand the satire? Colbert obviously was pointing out that Josh is a journalists and the power of blogs just by having him on his show. C’mon, the whole electricity argument….. You same people watched the old TV show Batman and thought Batman and Robin were the cool guys. Watch it again!
Read up on the Colbert show, watch it a few times and you will realize what he really is about. How about the presidential roast footage? Legendary!

[...] One of my favorite videoblogs, It’s Jerry Time!, won the Outstanding Broadcast Emmy! (via Steve Garfield). Jerry’s show is hosted on my friend Sean’s service, Vlogcentral. (Shameless plug.) Jailed (now released) videoblogger Josh Wolf held his own as a guest on The Colbert Report. And another of my favorite videobloggers, from Michigan, Josh Leo, entered (and won) The Save the Wild UP Video Challenge. [...]

If, as you say, the video you’re protecting is already on the net, it invalidates your argument that you’re protecting the people on the video tape.

The one thing you’ve done is taken very little a very long way to publicize your own wholly embarrassing and pointless blog. Do people take you seriously because you call yourself a “blogger” and act under some botched umbrella of “journalism”. Couldn’t afford the classes? To idiotic to hold down a real job? That haircut only valid at the local Blockbuster?

It always amuses me to watch fools like yourself think you’re doing some kind of epic good deed by fighting “globalism” and yet utilize the internet – the basic tool of globalization – to satisfy your tedious message. You’re an obvious oxymoron (emphasis on moron), just like “anarchist convention” or “blogging journalism”.

Blogs like yours are nothing more that self-opinionated op-ed pieces to appease your self-aggrandizing nature.

    Windbag.

josh josh josh, im tired of you and you stupid anarchist friends. its people like you who have no concept of civilization without law and order. with no cops you would be dead and not hiding under a constitution that you defy. you can reedeam yourself by taking an actual step and not shooting bottle rockets. if yo really believe in anarchism do something people will remember.

Let’s keep on checking those ISP’s, sounds like we’ve got the mysterious all on one ISP troll back, reading the blog to find something to bitch about. Start by reading the Constitution and doing some research into the first amendment to understand what Josh went to jail to protect.

Comment From: 76.21.18.197 AKA Cass AKA…

Liz, I suggest you do check the ISP\’s. Not everyone thinks your son is the second coming of Martin Luther King and I think its poor etiquette for the readers for you to accuse everyone who has a negative comment as one person. Offices, colleges, librarys, apartment complexes all share the same ISP addresses, but go ahead publish them all it doesn\’t mean anything. Trolls often don\’t suggest ways in which your son can improve his standing in the journalism community. D.

I’ll leave it to someone more technically literate than I am to do that checking.

I have never said that “Josh was the second coming of King” or anyone else. I have said that changing or calling attention to laws that need to change has been done in the past by people such as King, Parks, etc. People who were willing to stand up for something that in retrospect now, everyone agrees with, but at the time, they were called all kinds of names and attacked by many for their actions.

It was great to see someone throw him off his beat. I some how missed that episode sadly. Shocks me since i watch it daily eh oh well.

I honestly respect you for standing up what you feel is right and for caring for those around you. Even if i don’t fully agree with there cause i more then agree people deserve to get treated all the same. There is too much rash thinking in the world that rather see punishment first over all before justice. Unlike some i feel justice and punishment are two very different things.

(Oh and I’m Canadian just saw a story about you on t.v. had to post. Yeah i watch American TV shows =/)

Okay. The thing that has everyone so up in arms here is the fact that the video dealt with anarchists. People automatically assume the worst and are ready to pass judgement at the drop of a hat. Was there an arson attempt? Was there unnecessary violence? It really doesn’t matter. The point of debate is not dependant on the actual event that was filmed, but rather, the events that took place afterward. Josh’s rights as an American were violated by a fascist police state (or rather, the head of the police states, the feds). They tried to bully him to force him to comply with their agenda, and he refused. It comes down to showing Uncle Sam that he isn’t as powerful as you thought he was when you were young. Good job on standing up for yourself and telling the feds that they can’t just do whatever they want. It’s a shame you had to go to prison in order to prove your point. I am proud to say that we were friends so long ago.
