Two successful fundraisers down, a lot more to go...
Posted August 7th, 2007 by JoshSunday night’s debate was a great success! Chicken John and myself had a great time and I think those in attendance enjoyed themselves as well;
I’m not sure it’s fair to call it a debate as the two of us agreed more than we argued but the event served as a great forum for both of us to speak on the issues we feel our vital to San Francisco’s future. For those that missed it, be sure to check out the video. Chicken John was kind enough to let us use his beautiful space, and the audience clustered around these antique church pews which added something wonderful to the ambience. We split the money we received at the door and both of us walked away $132 closer to getting on the ballot. Later that night I received a few more donations, allowing us to just about hit the $1,000 milestone. read more »
Fundraiser at 111 Minna- music by Fuckwolf, The Greening, and Nick Culp
Posted August 4th, 2007 by JoshThis Monday, August 6, join mayoral candidate Josh Wolf at 111 Minna for a fundraiser to help raise the remaining money needed to secure his place on the ballot this November. Josh announced his candidacy last month and offers a much-needed alternative to business-as-usual; his innovative ideas as mayor have been profiled everywhere from Wired online to the San Francisco Chronicle, but in order for these visions to take route he must raise the $5,000 necessary to secure his position on the ballot. To that end, Josh is throwing a fundraising party at 111 Minna on Monday, August 6, at 7:00PM. A suggested donation of $8-$500 will be accepted at the door. read more »
Campaign fundraiser: Chicken John and Josh Wolf debate.
Posted July 31st, 2007 by JoshThe video stream still seems to be a bit buggy, look for an improved video tomorrow
With little more than a week before the filing deadline, mayoral candidates “Chicken John” Rinaldi and Josh Wolf have announced a joint fundraiser to help raise the necessary money to secure their status on the ballot. The highly anticipated Chicken v. Wolf debate will square off two of the most talked about, most controversial mayoral candidates and be moderated by permit consultant Jeremy Paul. The debate will feature questions from the audience and streamed live over the internet for those unable to attend. Take part in what could be the most captivating debate this campaign season this Sunday, August 5th, at 8PM at 3359 Cesar Chavez St. (near Mission). A $10 suggested donation will be taken at the door, but supporters are encouraged to donate up to $500 to either or both candidates at the event. read more »
Democracy doesn't close its doors
Posted July 26th, 2007 by JoshUpdate #2: Rick Knee wrote today that the proposal has been continued and will be discussed at next Thursday's meeting of the Rules Committee
Update: Alioto-Pier's office has responded to my letter. The reply has been posted as a comment.
Earlier tonight I received an e-mail from Rick Knee, a journalist and member of the Sunshine Ordinance Task force. He wrote to inform me and others on his mailing list of Supervisor Michela Alioto-Pier's intention to "mandate that the board meet bi-monthly behind closed doors to discuss emergency-preparedness and homeland-security issues," and I find this development more than a little alarming.
Unfortunately this subject is scheduled to be discussed in a special meeting of the board's Rules Committee in just a few hours. The meeting will take place 10:00AM Thursday, the 26th of July, in room 263, and is item #5 on the agenda.
As Rick points out in his e-mail, though any decision to implement this policy would go before the whole board, "public comment on specific items is allowed only during committee." While I will be unable to attend the meeting myself, I have voiced my opposition to the members of the committee and I encourage those of you interested in this matter to do the same.
The supervisors on the committee can be reached at the following e-mail addresses: Tom.Ammiano(at)sfgov.org, Sean.Elsbernd(at)sfgov.org, and Aaron.peskin(at)sfgov.org. The clerk is Gail Johnson and her e-mail address may follow the same format as well.
Check out my letter to the board after the break... read more »

Posted July 24th, 2007 by JoshThis November thousands of people will vote for the next mayor of San Francisco. As it stands now, the only name most people will recognize is that of Gavin Newsom. This is not democracy and unless a challenge is mounted against the mayor he will have no need to answer for his past performance or his promises for the future. That's why I am running for mayor and why you should consider donating to my campaign. Democracy depends on discourse and demands elected officials represent the people they serve. read more »
The San Francisco progressive convention
Posted July 21st, 2007 by Josh
On June 2nd, I sat filming the San Francisco Progressive Convention feeling the energy continue to rise for a challenger to Gavin Newsom. I listened intently as the various candidates for mayor spoke and I liked what I heard, but I felt that none of them had the visibility to mount a public fight against the sitting mayor. Perhaps fearing Newsom's rumored 70% approval rating, the big names in the progressive scene declined to say they'd run, and I was left wondering if anyone would step up.
After the convention the San Francisco Bay Guardian wrote:
we're still not convinced of Newsom's invulnerability. The mayor may have great PR, but he has a lousy record. The city's facing a long list of serious problems, from the murder rate to the Muni meltdown, and Newsom has done almost nothing to address them. The right candidate could mount a real challenge. read more »
